Relation between eyes and alzheimer’s
There are advancements going on in the world of eye care wherein the risks of Alzheimer’s at a later stage in life can be detected through eye examinations. Various researches are going on for the efficient detection of this disease worldwide. Through these methods, it was recently discovered that the symptoms of Alzheimer can be detected through eye exams while consulting for optical lens in Mauritius.
The Process Is Not East At All
Scanning of the retina can lead to detection of this disease, although the patient showed no signs of the disease. A procedure known as angiography lets doctors differentiate between red blood cells and the other retinal tissues.
There were few participants in the study, and the best optician in Mauritius noticed that all of whom were in the age bracket of mid – 70s with no symptoms of Alzheimer’s. 17 of them ended up with abnormal PET scans and/or lumbar punctures. All of them had thinning of the retina and areas with scarce blood vessels. The eye test proved to be very successful and was marked as a significant step towards detection.
The Brain and Eye are Connected
The patients with Alzheimer have lesser small blood vessels in the retina at the back of the eye. The layer of the retina was found to be thinner. Patients who suffered from mild cognitive impairment did not have these changes. So, not only is it absolutely crucial to get the best optical lens in Mauritius but also to check for any signs of this disease.
Eye Diseases Related To Alzheimer
Three eye diseases, namely, age – related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma have been found to have links with Alzheimer. The study went on for 5 years and it was found that patients with these diseases had around 40 – 50% higher chances of getting Alzheimer.
In five to ten years time, it is expected that eye exams would be highly effecive in detecting this ghastly disease and the detection might become an affordable process as well.
