Want to Find Out if you are Colour Blind?
If an individual is colour blind then she/he might face troubles while processing colours under regular, normal lighting conditions. It is the inability of the eyes to separate one colour from another. These people can’t identify colours as well.
How do our eyes see colours? What is like being colour blind ?
As per the best optometrist in Port Louis, there are different parts in our eyes which co-ordinate to locate various colours. These parts include the iris, cornea, pupil, optic nerve and retina. There are millions of retinal cone cells present in the retina. These cells are responsible for capturing the incoming light and it directs the brain by identifying which colour is it that an individual is looking at. These cells are colour specific which implies that these cells are able to see colours only of certain frequencies. They might be millions in numbers but they can be broadly categorized into three groups. There are three primary colours, red, blue and green and each one of the three types of cone cells is programmed to see one of these.
If there is a flower in front of your eyes, then the retina processes the colour of that beautiful flower in front of you. The ones who don’t suffer from colour blindness are able to distinguish between red and green whereas an individual who is suffering from inability to identify colour would not be in a position to see the green colour of the stem or the red hue on the flower petals. What she/he might see is a duller version of the combination of all these various kinds of colours.
Being colour blind does not indicate that the person can’t see any colour at all. They might not be able to distinguish all the colours from one another but they would be able to see certain colours.
The good news
Although there is no cure for this disease but all other eye functions in these individuals happen normally. There are some ways developed as well which create better conditions for these patients.
